Korea Presidential Election 2025: Polling Day on 3 June to Be a Public Holiday

The Republic of Korea has officially announced that Polling Day for the 2025 Presidential Election will take place on Tuesday, 3 June 2025. In accordance with national law, Polling Day will be recognized as a public holiday.

Legal Requirement for Employers

Under Korea’s electoral laws, all presidential elections are accompanied by a designated public holiday on the day of polling.

This ensures that all eligible voters have the time and opportunity to fulfill their civic duty.

For employers, this means adjusting schedules, payroll, and operations in accordance with public holiday regulations. Businesses that require employees to work on 3 June must ensure that their labor practices remain compliant with local employment laws, including appropriate holiday pay and time-off entitlements.

HR and Payroll Considerations

To ensure smooth operations during the election period, HR and payroll professionals should:

  • Update payroll systems to reflect the 3 June 2025 public holiday

  • Review employee schedules to accommodate time off or public holiday pay

  • Communicate clearly with staff about their entitlements and obligations on Polling Day
